The Bolivian police announced the arrest of 44 protesters on Friday. The protesters had set up over 20 roadblocks on highways across the country to prevent the arrest of former president Evo Morales on charges of statutory rape and human trafficking. The Bolivian government accused the protesters of committing various crimes, including attacks on transportation security, usurpation of functions, criminal association, armed robbery, and terrorism. The Minister of Government condemned the protesters' use of dangerous weapons, such as dynamite, assault rifles, and shotguns.
