On Monday, Melanie Joly, the Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs, announced the release of David Lavery, a Canadian veteran, from a Taliban prison after two months of captivity. Lavery was released and reunited with his family in Qatar. Lavery was arrested on November 17, 2024, while entering Kabul airport.
