Federal grand jury indicts former Syrian prison official on charges of torture

Samir Ousman al-Sheikh, a former Syrian military official who oversaw the notorious Adra Prison from 2005 to 2008 under President Bashar Assad's regime, has been charged with multiple counts of torture and conspiracy to commit torture by a federal grand jury. Al-Sheikh was initially arrested in July on visa fraud charges, and federal authorities announced the additional torture charges against him on Thursday.
