VP Sara Duterte hit with third impeachment complaint
A third impeachment complaint has been filed against Philippine Vice President Sara Duterte, adding to the political pressure she faces after breaking ties with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. The complaint alleges violations of the constitution, betrayal of public trust, graft, and other high crimes. Two previous complaints accused Duterte of corruption and betrayal of public trust. Anyone in the country can file impeachment complaints, but approval from at least one-third of the House of Representatives is needed for the case to proceed to the Senate. Duterte believes these actions are attempts to remove her from office and weaken her chances in the 2028 presidential elections. This event took place on 12/19/2024.
