Israeli strike targets Hamas military wing commander
The commander of Hamas's Khan Younis Brigade, Rafa'a Salameh, was killed in an IDF airstrike in the southern Gaza Strip. Muhammad Deif, the commander of Hamas's military wing, was also targeted and seriously wounded. The strike resulted in the deaths of at least 71 Palestinians and injured 289 others. Three other soldiers and 18 prisoners were also wounded in the fighting. The fighting occurred after the al-Shabab militants managed to obtain weapons and launched what appeared to be a well-planned bid to escape the prison. An investigation was underway.
