On Sunday, the Bangladesh Supreme Court scaled back a controversial job quota system that had caused nationwide protests over the past week. DR Congo and M23 rebels announce 15-day truce extension
The US announced a 15-day extension of the humanitarian truce between the Democratic Republic of Congo military and M23 rebels. The initial ceasefire began on July 5 and will now last until 11:59 pm (2159 GMT) on August 3. The truce recommits the parties to the conflict to silence their weapons and provide humanitarian personnel unfettered access to vulnerable populations. While fighting has decreased between both sides, the truce has not always been respected.
