JNIM claims responsibility for attack in Burkina Faso
More than 100 soldiers in Burkina Faso were killed in an attack by militants from the Al-Qaeda affiliate Jama’a Nusrat ul-Islam wa al-Muslimin (JNIM). The attack took place near the border with Niger and JNIM claimed responsibility for it. The group stated that they stormed a military site, killing 107 soldiers and taking control of the site. Putin to arrive in North Korea on Tuesday
North Korean state media announced that Russian President Vladimir Putin will visit North Korea on Tuesday for two days to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. The talks will focus on expanding military cooperation as both countries align against the United States. This visit marks Putin's first trip to North Korea in 24 years and follows increased cooperation between the two nations since Kim's visit to Russia in 2019. This event took place on 06/17/2024.

BIFF member arrested in Datu Piang
A suspected sub-commander of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) was arrested for his alleged involvement in the torching of a police car and shooting inside a church in Maguindanao del Sur in 2020. The suspect, known as alias Bayawak, is facing charges including attempted murder, multiple murders, frustrated murder, violation of the Anti-Terrorism Act, and destructive arson. Bayawak's group, consisting of over 100 BIFF members, attacked a community in Datu Piang in December 2020. This event took place on 06/17/2024.

Voronezh and Lipetsk hit by Ukrainian drones
Russian Voronezh and Lipetsk oblasts were targeted in a drone attack on June 17. The Novolipetsk metallurgical plant in Lipetsk was apparently the target. The Russian air defense reportedly shot down four UAVs in Lipetsk. No casualties have been reported, and the extent of the damage is unknown. In Voronezh Oblast, two aircraft-type UAVs were allegedly spotted and destroyed. No casualties or damage have been reported there either. The threat of drone attacks remains in effect in Voronezh Oblast. This event took place on 06/17/2024.
