EU forces free merchant ship from suspected pirates off Somalia
The European Union’s anti-piracy force in the Indian Ocean and Red Sea has successfully freed a Liberian-flagged merchant vessel, Basilisk, from suspected pirates off the coast of Somalia. The pirates attacked the ship on Thursday, sailing north around 380 nautical miles east of Somalia’s capital—Mogadishu, when suspected pirates targeted it. The EU naval forces boarded the ship from a helicopter Thursday night and secured the release of 17 crew members. One of the crew members was injured during the pirate attack. Taiwan tracked 19 People's Liberation Army (PLA) naval ships and seven Coast Guard vessels operating around its country on Thursday's first day of the PLA exercise. The naval vessels were in addition to 49 Chinese military aircraft that operated around Taiwan. This event took place on 05/24/2024.

49 Chinese aircraft tracked around Taiwan during the first day of PLA drills
Taiwan tracked 49 Chinese aircraft operating around its country during the first day of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) exercises around Taiwan between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Thursday. 35 or the aircraft crossed the Taiwan Strait median line in the northern, central, and southwest sectors of the country’s Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ). Seven Chinese fighter planes were monitored in the northeastern portion of the ADIZ, while seven stayed on the Chinese side of the median line. This event took place on 05/24/2024.
