Iranian bank cards can now be used in Russia as the two countries connect their banking systems to counteract sanctions. In 2018, Iranian banks were excluded from the SWIFT international financial messaging service due to sanctions. The connection between Iran's interbank network, Shetab, and Russia's Mir allows Iranians to withdraw money and make in-store purchases in Russia.
