Majority approves EU accession in Moldova

A slim majority of 50.39% voted "yes" in Moldova's referendum on EU accession. President Maia Sandu claimed the vote was marred by unprecedented outside interference. The close result sets the stage for a run-off between Sandu and her main rival, Alexandr Stoianoglo. The referendum was seen as a test of Moldova's aspirations to join the EU and escape Russia's influence. This event took place on 10/20/2024 at the following location: Chisinau, Moldova.
