Russia's lower house of parliament has ratified a treaty with Iran to deepen their political, military, and economic ties. The treaty aims to counter common security threats but stops short of a mutual defense pact. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko clarified that the treaty does not establish a military alliance with Iran but instead commits the two countries to not assisting an aggressor if either side is attacked. The deal, signed by Presidents Putin and Pezeshkian in January, requires parliamentary approval to come into force. This event took place on 04/08/2025 at the following location: Moscow, Russia.
