Somalia warns it may take action against the African Union envoy due to Al-Shabaab comments

Somalia's government accused Sivuyile Thandikhaya Bam, the Acting Head of the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), of hindering the country's progress and showing favoritism towards the militant group Al-Shabaab. In a Thursday interview with Somali National Television, Foreign Minister Ahmed Moallim Fiqi stated that the government is contemplating "strong measures" against Bam, referencing ongoing and intolerable actions that oppose Somalia's national priorities and security needs. He criticized Bam for his remarks at the United Nations Security Council, implying that Al-Shabaab is pursuing political legitimacy and has ceased targeting civilians—comments that Fiqi denounced as misleading and perilous. This event took place on 04/18/2025 at the following location: Mogadishu, Somalia.
