US exempts Philippines and Taiwan from aid freeze

The Philippines welcomed the US exemption of $336 million in military assistance from President Trump's foreign aid freeze. This funding, intended for modernizing Philippine security forces, was part of a larger $5.3 billion release that also included aid for Taiwan and Ukraine. The exemptions were granted before a US judge ordered a temporary lift of the freeze on February 13. Philippine Ambassador Romualdez called this development a significant sign that the strong US-Philippines alliance remains intact under the Trump administration. This event took place on 02/24/2025 at the following location: Manila, Philippines.
